A.E. Conrady Award
Presented to the
GEC Marconi Avionics Optical Design Team
David J Hubbard
Framed arrangement of the 1995 A.E. Conrady award given by the International Society of Optical Engineering to David J. Hubbard of the GEC Avionics Optical Design Team. The citation reads ‘The A.E. Conrady award recognises the unique contribution of exceptional merit, or a series of contributions over an extended period, in the design, construction and testing of optical instrumentation. The 1995 award, sponsored by SPIE and donated by Optical Research Associates, is presented to Jonathan P. Freeman, Richard K. Howard, David J. Hubbard, Stephen John Robbins, and Ian K.Wilmington, members of the GEC-Marconi Avionics Optical Design Team, for the design, development, and production of holographic optical elements for avionics head-up displays. The team developed accurate and lightweight single element off axis holographic HUDs suitable for use in air combat roles. The team was instrumental in developing the technology to quality production standards.
In recognition of their design and development of the process technology for the combiner element of an off-axis head-up display, SPIE is proud to present its 1995 A.E. Conrady award to the GEC-Marconi Avionics Optical Design Team.
