A rate gyro is a type of gyroscope, which rather than indicating direction, indicates the rate of change of angle with time. The gyro has only one gimbal ring, with consequently only two planes of freedom and is used to measure the rate of angular movement. This two-axis Rate Gyro Unit uses the well proven GI-G6 (see C0861) rate integrating Gyro to provide high accuracy information. It was designed for high shock hostile environments, the whole unit has nuclear hardening of the circuits and being modular it can be adapted to provide numerous customer options. The rate range can be factory set between 10 and 250 deg/sec and the design has a bandwidth up to 120Hz.
There is a Spin Motor Synchronisation detector and a Built-in Test (BITE) circuitry both with LED checklights and an Elapsed Time Meter is fitted.
The Rate Gyro will takes a DC input of 18 to 32 VDC 18 watts approx. or an AC input 115V 400Hz 18 watts approx. The overall size 175mm x 153mm x 115mm high
This Rate Gyro was supplied for the A-4 HUDWAS (Head Up Display Weapon Aiming System) It is a three axis system. The manufacturer is not known.
