Powerplant Systems Division by 1990 was named Monitoring and Controls Division to reflect the new work on North Sea Oil equipment. The sites were in Atlanta in Georgia USA, Nailsea near Bristol and of course at Rochester.

The Engine Health Monitoring System consists of a single airborne Engine Monitor Unit (EMU) together with a removable contactless 1 Megabyte Engine Monitor data cartridge and a PC compatible Ground Replay adapter.

The EMU is mounted in the cockpit and interfaces with the existing engine and air data sensors. The system operates in four modes; SCAN with both manual and automatic initiation, RETRIEVE for use both in flight and on the ground to shorten maintenance routines, ENGINE SUMMARIES for diagnosis of engine problems and a PASSWORD SET mode. The Ground Station can provide performance trends on individual or fleet wide engines.

The display is a supertwist LCD and is Night Vision Goggle compatible. The Data Cartridge ODMI0972 plugs into the EMU.
