with GEC-Marconi (China) Ltd.
With the compliments of
Chengdu Aircraft Industrial Corporation
The Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group or Chengdu Aerospace Corporation, a subsidiary of AVIC, is a Chinese aerospace conglomerate that designs and manufactures combat aircraft and is also a manufacturer of aircraft parts. It was founded in 1958 (as Chengdu State Aircraft Factory No.132 Aircraft Plant) in Chengdu, Sichuan province, China to be an aircraft supplier for the Chinese military. GEC-Marconi established GEC-Marconi (China) Ltd to bid for avionics and to support licence production of avionics for the emerging aircraft For example in 1996 the China National Aero Technology Import and Export (CATIC) was reported to be selecting the GEC-Marconi Blue Hawk radar and avionics for the new Chengdu Aircraft (CAC) FC-1 fighter. The Company had already supplied the head-up display (HUD) and Skyranger radar for the CAC F-7M and multi-mode Super Skyranger for the follow-on F-7MG fighter.
This plaque recognises the work that Bob Whelan of GEC-Marconi Avionics did over a ten year period working with the Chengdu Aircraft Industrial Corporation.
