Notes:

This is a Battery Pack from the Hermes system, though the archive only has this empty case, i.e. without its battery. The batteries are fitted with flying leads that connect to the two internal terminals marked "PL1" & "PL2".

The battery pack is intended to be used with the Relay Unit (which the archive does not have) but can also be used to increase the operational duration of the related Monitor Unit.

It can be fitted with various battery types that offer a range of energy densities and, therefore, operational duration.

The given size excludes the flexible handle.

Hermes is a family of VHF radio linked equipment using both seismic and passive infra-red sensors to detect vehicles and men, giving clear indication of classification, direction and numbers. The hand held monitor can simultaneously display the information from a group of up to 10 sensors and can respond to up to 80 sensors in groups of ten. Relay units are provided to enhance the range between sensor and monitor. The equipment was made at Borehamwood (Manufacturer's code: K0978) but was maintained by the Aviation Service and Repair Division at Rochester.
