Notes:

This Test set appeared outside the RAA door some years ago! It incorporates a "Mark II C Air Speed Calibrator" dial which was manufactured by "R.W.Munro Ltd, London N11" and it is likely that the whole instrument was made by that company. This Speed Calibrator has two legends: on the lower left “ Speed Scale. To full adiabatic formula up to 660.9 Knots (Speed of sound to Rayleigh formula above 660.6 Knots)” and on the lower right “Pressure Scale. Equivalent M/M Water at 15oC, 30” Hg at 0°C, Lat 45° = 10368.8 M/M H2O at 15°C”. The dial also has the marking “Dial graduated at 16.6°C Lat 51½°”. The cabinet has a gas connector on the top and two pipe connectors on the left hand side; one in and one out. The controls are marked ‘Inlet’, ‘Relief’ and ‘Instrument’ and there is a button at the bottom of the unit marked ‘Push’. Through a window on the right hand side can be seen a plumb level and the whole cabinet has adjustable feet but it is not clear why the Tester needs to be so carefully levelled. The Test Set presumably simulates the Pitot and Static pressures at particular speeds and altitudes and checks these against the output from the Air Data Computer on test. The items is marked with asset no "277/690"; the first three digits being the Divisional code for the support Division then AS&RD.
