Engine Control The Collection

The electronic equipment involved in a modern jet engine is considerable. The full authority digital engine control system (FADEC) automatically controls the flow of fuel to the combustion chambers in a closed loop manner in response to throttle command. The engine parameters such as temperature, speed and acceleration are computer controlled to ensure safe operating limits are maintained.

Another system may monitor the engine health to give early warning of wear, fatigue damage, vibration levels or excessive temperature. All of this data can be downloaded to optimise maintenance.

Engine Control Units can be in a particularly severe environment if located on the engine itself.
