Autostabiliser Computer
Part 47-045-01
Ser 307
Most swept wing aircraft exhibit a lightly damped short period oscillatory motion about the yaw and roll axes at certain height and speed conditions and require at least a yaw auto-stabiliser to damp and suppress this motion. In the case of the Jaguar autostabilisation in all three axes was needed. This Autostabiliser was fitted to the J-22 Orao and IAR-93 a joint Jugoslav-Romanian light strike-trainer, derived from the Jaguar, built between 1972-1998.
The unit contains seven modules in a ½ ATR Short box; Power Supply, Gyro/BITE Module, Pitch Autostabiliser Card, Roll Autostabiliser Card, Yaw Autostabiliser Card, Conversion Card and a Roll Autopilot Card. It provides the following Autopilot modes; Pitch attitude hold, Barometric height hold and Heading hold. In April 1985 GEC Avionics proposed to expand the functionality of this unit since it has five spare card positions. It is not known if this upgrade was ever carried out.
This unit also bears the label: "Warning Gyroscopic Inst. Handle with Care"
