This item is an accelerometer and acceleration is sensed along the cylinder's axis.
This is a Chrome-plated cylinder with knurled studs at each end, through one of which emerge four coloured electrical connecting wires. Although this item is probably an accelerometer it has been suggested that it is an electro-mechanical strain transducer.
