This small Alpha helmet is fitted with drive electronics board (buried in liner) and could be made into an AHMS with new side arms etc & visors.
It is however the property of DRA F'boro Mr G Clarkson although he has most probably forgotten about it. 10/8/91
This is an early monocular Helmet-Mounted Sighting Systems (HMSS) fitted to a UK Alpha Helmet with drive electronics fitted in liner. The image source was a simple LED matrix and the system used the Company optical helmet tracker (Helmet Optical Position Sensor HOPS). The HMSS was supplied to the Defence Research Agency (DRA) in the 1970’s for evaluation and after several design iterations it finally led to the production version. This was first fitted to the UK Jaguar aircraft and later deployed in combat on Harrier GR9 (UK design AV-8B) and the RAF Tornado.
