This helmet mounted system was developed by the Company Research Laboratory (FARL) for the Aviation Service and Repair Division. It consists of a 1inch Sony CRT and a simple optical assembly fitted on a standard FAA "Hard Hat". It enables the maintenance engineer to see video images of handbook pages for example by just raising his eyes from the job. Six of the displays were manufactured around the 1985/86 period.
The helmet was known affectionately as the "Bob The Builder Helmet" after the TV character.
Fitted with a pair of headphones marked:
"David Clark Co. Inc.
Model 730"
It has a 1.15m cable terminated by a 7-pin DIN connector.
