A rate gyro is a type of gyroscope, which rather than indicating direction, indicates the rate of change of angle with time. The gyro has only one gimbal ring, with consequently only two planes of freedom and is used to measure the rate of angular movement. This two-axis Rate Gyro Unit is the well proven Northrop GI-G6 rate integrating Gyro to provide high accuracy information. It was designed for high shock hostile environments and this model was used in the Royal Navy Spearfish Torpedo.
The Gyro is also marked ‘88932-67728-310’
