These Binoculars were acquired with a thin leatherette case which is in poor condition, though the binoculars, albeit worn, are optically good. They have three settings on the eyepieces for 'Theatre', 'Field' and 'Marine' and the objective lenses are fitted with slide-out, sun-shield sleeves.
The Binoculars markings are around the eyepieces. "449 Strand, London" which was the sales office of Elliott Bros from 1864 and the building is still there almost opposite Charing Cross Station.
The given dimensions are without the case and with the sleeves and focusing action fully retracted. With the sleeves and focusing action fully extended theh overall depth is 182mm. The weight with case is 740g.
The date is estimated as prior to 1900 which was the year that Elliott Bros moved to the new site at Lewisham. However it is not certain when the Sales Office at 449 The Strand was closed.
