Lockheed

The Lockheed Corporation (originally the Loughead Aircraft Manufacturing Company) was an American aerospace company. The Alco Hydro-Aeroplane Company was established in San Francisco in 1912 by the brothers Allan and Malcolm Loughead. In 1926, Allan Loughead, Jack Northrop, and Kenneth Jay secured funding to form the Lockheed Aircraft Company in Hollywood (the spelling was changed phonetically to prevent mispronunciation). In 1993 Lockheed acquired General Dynamics' Fort Worth aircraft division, builder of the F-16 Fighting Falcon and in 1995 the  Lockheed Corporation merged with Martin Marietta to form Lockheed Martin. The company has many famous aircraft to its name such as the Constellation, Hudson, P-38, P-80 Shooting Star and the C-130 Hercules, the C-5 Galaxy and the L-1011 Tristar)
