A new generation HUD, the Type 80 (or Series 80) was introduced for the civil market in July 1968 and proposed for a number of British and European transport aircraft. The Company said that it was a fifth generation HUD. The concept was essentially modular to allow installation in a wide variety of aircraft. The Company stated that the Series 80 system was a hybrid of analogue and digital technology because of the use of pulse controlled analogue ramp waveform generation.
